    169 PMGSY roads to be completed in Kashmir by March 2017: Veeri

    SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 15: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today said the government has set the target of completing 169 PMGSY roads in Kashmir by March next year.

    “Work on all these road projects is in full swing and on their completion 135 habitations will get dependable connectivity,” the Minister said while chairing a review meeting of PMGSY here today.

    The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer PMGSY Kashmir, Malik Basharat, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers of Kashmir division.

    The meeting was informed that 29 road projects are being executed in Anantnag, 13 in Kulgam, 11 in Pulwama, 7 in Shopian, 13 in Budgam, 15 in Ganderbal,  18 in Baramulla, 20 in PIU Uri Baramulla and 15 in Bandipora. Similarly 16 schemes are going in Kupwara, 5 in PIU Kupwara, 15 in Kargil and three in Leh. The Minister said a roadmap has been formulated to macadamize 400 KM road length in Kashmir next year which will also compensate the loss of working season due to disturbances this year.

    Mr Veeri reminded the officers that Government is morally and legally bound to provide road connectivity to far flung areas. He said a comprehensive plan of action has been prepared to strengthen the road network in the state.

    Mr Veeri stressed on better synergy among the concerned departments for quick andveeri timely removal of bottlenecks in the execution of projects.

    The Chief Engineer PMGSY gave a detailed account of works being executed in different parts of Kashmir.

    The Minister lauded the Chief Engineer for preparing a roadmap for covering all the habitations of Kashmir divisions in next few years.
