    2.71 lakh trees to be planted in Budgam

    BUDGAM, MARCH 03: A massive plantation drive will be launched in Budgam during which about 2.71 lakh saplings of different varieties would be planted in the district this year.
    This was stated during a meeting chaired by District Development Commissioner, Mir Altaf Ahmad, here today to review the preparedness of the plantation drive.
    Giving breakup of plants to be planted by concerned Departments, it was said that Social Forestry will plant about 38840 plants, Horticulture 32600 plants, Sericulture 21500 mulberry plants, Soil Conservation 42230 plants, Forest 92214 conifers and 43800 broad leaved plants, Floriculture 503 chinar tress at identified locations of the District.
    On the occasion, the DDC stressed on concerted efforts to be made for preservation and protection of environment from increasing pollution and in restoring ecological balance. He said the campaign would prove beneficial in various ways and would check soil erosion and will help in boosting ground water level as well.
    Chief Planning Officer, DFOs of Social Forestry, Soil Conservation, and Forest PP Division Budgam, Chief Horticulture Officer and other concerned attended the meeting.
