JAMMU, FEBRUARY 19: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today said the objective of the department is to supply clean and pure drinking water to the people of the State.
For this, the government has adopted holistic approach through conjunctive use of surface, ground and rain water harvesting, the Minister said while addressing a gathering after inaugurating a tube well at Bakshi Nagar constructed by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
The water supply scheme having a discharge capacity of 3 lakh gallons per day will provide clean drinking water to 10000 people in Bakshi Nagar, Maheshpura, Resham Ghar, Shopping Centre and Gurha Bakshi Nagar.
The Minister further said the department is constructing 19 new Water Supply Schemes to further streamline water supply scenario in Jammu city and directions have been given to complete these schemes by the end of this year. The department has been asked to fix leakages in water pipes and it is the responsibility of the general public to immediately inform the department if they find leakage of clean drinking water at any place, he stressed.
MLA, Jammu West Sat Sharma, in his address, said the tube well will definitely help in further streamlining the water supply in the area. The work on constructing seven new tube wells in the area is going on in full swing for ensuring that people don’t face any difficulty in getting sufficient drinking water in the ensuing summer season, he informed.
Chief Engineer, PHE Susheel Aima, Chief Engineer, I&FC Rajeev Gandotra, Chief Executive Officer, ERA Vinod Sharma and other officers of the department were present on the occasion.
