SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 22: Minister for Education, Syed Altaf Bukhari today urged students to avail benefits of Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for J&K and called for its effective implementation for the larger good of the students of the State.
He said this at a day-long awareness-cum-workshop organized by the Higher Education Department at SKICC here in which he was the chief guest, while as Minister of State (MoS) for Education Priya Sethi attended the function as guest of honour.
On the occasion, Bukhari while highlighting the importance of the PMSSS said the scheme is aimed to provide better avenues of obtaining higher education to students, besides preparing them for competing at national level exams.
He said that he will explore all avenues to help out needy students from primary to university level so that financial constraints do not stop brilliant boys and girls from attaining regular education anywhere in the country.
He said the scheme holds significance particularly for students who cannot afford to pursue higher education because of economic constraints. The Minister stressed on the need for simplification of eligibility criteria for availing scholarships under PMSSS, and directed the concerned to ensure a fool-proof mechanism so that students get admission in the recognized and best colleges outside the State under PMSSS.
Speaking on the occasion, MoS Priya Sethi called for cooperation and hard-work from all stake-holders to achieve the objective of placing the students of the state in prestigious colleges of the country while keeping their subject choice in consideration.
Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Commissioner Secretary School Education, , VC Central University, VC Cluster University, Director Colleges, DC Srinagar, Director School Education-Kashmir, Representatives of UGC, Indian Nursing Council, Experts from AICTE, besides Principals of various Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools of Kashmir Division and other concerned were present on the occasion.
