Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has added yet another feather on his cap by becoming only the second player from his country to reach the milestone of 4,000 Test runs.
The 31-year-old acheived the landmark during day one of the second and the final Test of the three-match series against West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Mushfiqur, who needed just eight runs to reach the milestone heading into the match, played a backfoot shot off legspinner Devendra Bishoo’s delivery in the 65th over of match to cross the 4,000 Test-run mark. The former Bngladeshi skipper was eventually dismissed for 14 off West Indies quick Shermon Lewis’s delivery. Mushfiqur, who made his debut as a 16-year-old in 2005 against England at Lord’s, also became the first Bangladesh batsman to smash two double centuries in the longest format of the game when he notched up a blistering knock of 219 runs against Zimbabwe earlier this month. In 2013, he became the first batsman of the country to score a Test double-hundred during a series against Sri Lanka.
Besides this, he is also among Bangladesh’s first three batsmen to reach the milestone of 5,000 ODI runs.
Mushfiqur has appeared in a total of 65 Tests so far, amassing 4,006 runs at an average of 34.83. He has also played 195 ODIs making 5,213 runs and 74 T20Is scoring 1,131 runs.
