New Delhi, Feb 27: Virender Sehwag, former Indian cricket team player, on Monday tweeted his support for the Indian army, and particularly for the gravely injured Major Amardeep Singh. In showing respect to the Indian Army, he has followed former India captain MS Dhoni, who holds an honorary rank in the armed forces.
Responding to a tweet posted by retired army veteran Major Gaurav Arya, Sehwag posted that he was praying for a quick recovery for Major Amardeep, who was injured alongside Lieutenant Colonel Mukesh Jha on February 23.
The two Indian army personnel were injured in an ambush by militants in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of three soldiers and one civilian. Two civilians were also injured.
Major Arya had posted on Sunday, along with a photo, that Major Amardeep had a bullet lodged in his brain and was fighting for his life.
Sehwag had also retweeted a similar post by one of his followers on Sunday.
Apart from Twitter, other Indian cricketers like Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh have shown their support for Indian Army from time to time.
Also on Sunday, Sehwag showed his support for the Indian army by retweeting a series of photos posted by the account of the Additional Directorate General of Public Information of the Indian army.
The photos were from a veterans rally organised in Firozpur Cantonment to address the grievances of army veterans and independents.
Sehwag has time and again posted in support of the Indian army on his Twitter account.
On February 21, he posted a photo of himself in army fatigues with the caption, “Jawaan Hamaara Bhagwaan”. The photo was from a two day visit to an army camp in Bangalore.
In December last year, he posted a photo of soldiers working to help civilians as Cyclone Vardah struck several areas of South India.
“Salutations to the Indian Army for being there,wherever trouble strikes. #ArmyHaiNa . May Tamil Nadu & Andhra recover soon. #cyclonevardah (sic)” he posted.
In September, after the Indian army had conducted discreet operations to infiltrate militant base camps across the Line of Control, Sehwag congratulated the armed forces.
