SRINAGAR, March 01: Police foiled an attempt to smuggle in arms and ammunition from Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir (PoK) in a truck in Uri sector in north Kashmir district of Baramulla, official sources said.
They said police established a naka in Uri on a tip-off that some arms and ammunition were being smuggled in from PoK in a truck which had gone there with goods as a part of Cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade.
During the checking of a particular truck after returning from PoK, police recovered arms and ammunition, including one Chinese Pistol with two magazines and 14 live rounds of ammunition, four AK Magazines with 120 rounds and two Chinese grenades.
They said the arms and ammunition were hidden in a camouflage cavity of the truck designed particularly for hiding arms and ammunition. Further investigation has taken up, they said.
This is for the first time since the start of the cross-LoC trade in 2008, arms and ammunition were recovered from the truck returning from PoK.
However, in the past police recovered drugs and other banned items from PoK trucks, leading to suspension of cross-LoC trade service a number of times.
The cross-LoC trade service was started after successfully running cross-LoC Karvan-e-Aman bus service since April, 2005 to help families divided in 1947 due to partition to meet each other.
