JAMMU, MARCH 02 – Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary today inaugurated a tube well at PHE Complex, Mechanical Division (South) in Gandhi Nagar.
The tube well, having a discharge capacity of 35,000 gallons per hour, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore by J&K Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA). The water supply scheme will provide potable water to more than 23,000 citizens living in Gandhi Nagar and its adjoining areas.
Addressing the gathering, the Speaker said this is another step by the government to augment water supply in the area, especially in preparation for the upcoming summer season. He said with the commissioning of the tube well, the water supply in the area would be further augmented.
Meanwhile, Sham Lal Choudhary informed that the department is constructing 19 new Water Supply Schemes to change water supply scenario in Jammu city. The ERA has been asked to complete these schemes by the end of this year, he added.
The Minister further said that the department is committed to provide clean and pure drinking water to the people of the State and steps have been taken to provide regular water supply in Jammu during ensuing summer season.
Later, the Minister convened public meetings at Satriyan, Haripur, Gharana, Chakrohi and Jora in Suchetgarh to create awareness among the locals about the state and centrally sponsored welfare schemes.
While addressing the locals, the Minister said the government is taking one step after the other for ensuring equitable development of the State and special stress is being laid on development of border and far-flung areas.
Senior political leaders Vikram Randhawa, Brijeshwar Singh Rana, Satpal Pappi and prominent citizens of the society were present in the public meetings.
