Women worst victims in militarised zones: Shah

Srinagar, Mar 07 On the ‘International Women’s Day’, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah has urged the international community to take cognisanse of the injustice meted out to women-folk in world’s conflict-torn and militarised zones like Kashmir.
In a statement Shah said while world keenly champions for women’s rights, women continue to be the worst victims of injustice and in war-torn regions the suffering is even worse.
“In militarised zones, women continue to be victims of sexual violence which in turn leads to mental and emotional trauma,” he said.
Commenting on challenges faced by women in the disputed state of Jammu Kashmir, Shabir Ahmad Shah said Indian occupational forces, as part of their suppressive tactic, have victimised Kashmiri women by using rape as a war tool.
“Discourse should be initiated at world forums regarding the sufferings of Kashmiri women at the hands of occupational forces. The gory incidents of Kunan-Poshpora, Jigarpora, Chanapora, and thousands of similar tragedies should dominate the themes and the men in uniform involved in such shameful and heinous crimes be brought to book,” he said.
“The culprits involved in rape and murder of Asiya and Neelofar are roaming free after being given clean chit by the puppet authorities. So, what’s the fun in observing the ‘International Women’s Day’ when the womankind continues to be victim of injustice.”
Shah said most dear to a person is his honour and any kind of assault on one’s dignity is intolerable.
“The world community should take notice of the sufferings of Kashmiri women who have been the worst victims of sexual violence and resolve the longstanding dispute,” Shah said
