Kishtwar, Mar 22: A plantation drive was organized in Government Degree College Kishtwar by Department of Botany and NSS/NCC wings of college following the World Forest Day .
On the occasion, District Development Commissioner Kishtwar, Ghulam Nabi Balwan was the chief guest and Principal GDC Kishtwar, Dr. Shafqat Rafiqui presided the programme.
A large number of teaching and non-teaching staff participated in the drive including Prof. Kuldeep Kumar Sharma,Prof. Surinder Sen, Prof. Lekh Raj Badyal, Prof. Yasin Sirwal, Prof. Faisal Kitchloo (NSS Coordinator) ,Prof. Satish Thakur (NCC coordinator) , Prof. Romana Sirwal, Prof. Sarita, Prof. Touseef Trak, Prof.Showqat Butt,etc.
However, the volunteers of NSS and NCC also participated in the programme.
However, on the occasion, District Development Commissioner Kishtwar , Ghulam Nabi Balwan said plants have been serving humanity since times immemorial,he said and urged that the that efforts shall be made to make the college campus most beautiful.
He maintained that in a society trees also play an important role equally in the achievement of human security,he said and said that whether it is through the provision of livelihood resources or ecosystem services such as water and air purification, trees undeniably provide security to humans and are a means for sustaining life, he said.
However, while urging studnets and staff members of College to grow more and more plants in their localities for environmental sustainability, Principal GDC Kishtwar, Dr. Shafqat Rafiqui, said that plants are the life life for the society and everyone should forest Day, he said.
He also said that the NSS and NCC volunteers are doing best for the overall development of this college campus.
