St. Mary’s Infant Convent School hosts Sports Meet

The spirit of convivial competition came alive when St. Mary’s Infant Convent School (formerly St. Mary’s Infant Pre School) hosted its first Annual Sports Meet wherein young and rollicking champions of the school were exposed to a plethora of physical recreational activities that splattered a riot of sporting hues on their learning canvas and inculcated valuable lessons of sportsmanship in the infants.

The lighting of the ceremonial torch by the gracious hands of Mrs. Anna Mary, Chairperson of the school, marked the inauguration of the sports meet which was followed by the torchbearer run around the field by the head boy of the school, Adrian Raj Anthony, giving a shot in the arm to the prefects to confidently lead their comrades in a well synchronized march-past exhibiting a perfect blend of colour, rhythm, endurance, agility and self-discipline.

Once the races began, the air was filled with exhilarating inspirits as the teachers and the peers cheered on young athletes. During the fun-filled day, students of pre-nursery, nursery, LKG and UKG participated with full verve and vigour in an array of riveting races such as sack race, obstacle race, three legged race, rabbit hopping race, tricycle race, beading race, skipping race, banana eating race, lemon and spoon race, burst the balloon race and many more races especially designed for the small ones to give a vent to their creativity and physical agility. Cavorting students also laid out an impressive display of various exercises and karate skills. Rhythmic demonstration of aerobics coupled with yoga and its passive serenity put up by the lilliputians was truly a sight to behold. Tug of war between teachers and students added to the zest and further embellished the enthralling event.

In her presidential address, Mrs. Anna Mary, stated sports meet to be the culmination and a celebration of a year’s worth of physical education curriculum of the students that is specially designed to hone the essential gross-motor skills of the students. She lauded the budding athletes for trying their hand at different sports and for putting up a magnificent show. Thereupon, Mrs. Anna Mary gave away medals and trophies to the sports event winners.

Amidst resounding cheer, the formal vote of thanks was proposed by the Principal of the school, Mrs. Sheetal Anthony, and the meet was declared closed with the dousing of the lit beacon and beating of the retreat. The proceedings were brought to a fitting close with a moving rendition of the national anthem and the children marched out with pride holding their tokens of appreciation high.
