Srinagar,May 5: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Tuesday said that anti-militancy operations will be intensified further across Kashmir valley till a lasting peace is established in the region.
Referring to the Monday’s attack on security force naka in Handwara in Kupwara, the DGP said militants took undue advantage of civilian movement in the adjoining orchard. “Militants fired at CRPF personnel without caring about civilians behind whom they were taking shelter leading to loss of life of an innocent civilian,” Mr Singh told reporters on the sideline of wreath laying ceremony of three CRPF jawans held here on Tuesday. He said that there are instances of recent militant infiltrations by Pakistan. “In one such incident, a group of five militants, who infiltrated from Keran sector of Kupwara district, were killed in the first week of April.He added more such attempts are being made by militants from various launch pads operating in Pakistan alone the Line of Control (LoC).
The DGP appreciated the role of police for maintaining pressure on the elements inimical to peace in Jammu and Kashmir. The DGP also paid rich tributes to the martyr Police Sub Inspector Sageer Ahmad Pathan and other Security personnel martyred in Handwara in two separate encounters. “It is painful to lose the brave personnel but we all are proud of these brave hearts who sacrificed their lives for safeguarding the interests of people and the nation,” the DGP said.He said Pakistan over the years is continuously attempting to foment trouble in J&K by pushing militants, repeatedly committing ceasefire violations and instigating and promoting violence by various means but like in the past all its evil designs are doomed to fail. “We have to continue our coordinated efforts against the terrorists and their associates to ensure peaceful atmosphere for the people of Jammu and Kashmir who have been victim of Pak sponsored violence since decades,” he added. The DGP said with the coordinated efforts of forces the militant activities have been restricted and action against them has been intensified.Mr Singh stressed upon the officers that proper briefing be given to the personnel deployed on ground as militants are attempting to take advantage of present situation to disrupt peace and order in parts of Jammu and Kashmir and targeting Security Forces deployments. He advised the officers to remain alert and extra cautious in their respective jurisdictions and ensure that elements inimical to peace are not given any chance to disturb peace.
