UDA protests over granting Domicile Certificates to outsiders

JAMMU, July 8: United Democratic Alliance (UDA) today staged a protest over granting Domicile Certificates to the outsiders living in J&K, terming an attempt to change the region’s demography.

Led by Manish Sahni, Convenor and Rajiv Mahajan, Spokesperson UDA, the members assembled in front of Statue of Maharaja Hari Singh near Tawi Bridge, Dogra Chowk Jammu and raised slogans against the J&K administration for betraying the people of J&K.

Talking to reporters here today, Sahni opposed the grant of domicile certificates to outsiders and the new rules appeared to have reaffirmed their belief that the central government is hell bent on changing the demography of the Jammu region.

Sahni said that despite taking up the issue several times with regard to the deportation of Rohingyas residing in Jammu and Kashmir illegally, BJP led Government at the Centre has failed to deport them. He also expressed resentment against the J&K Government for its failure to rehabilitate the Kashmiri Pandits for the last 30 years. He said that the J & K government has not a concrete policy to ensure honorable rehabilitation and return of KPs to the Valley.

While interacting with media persons, Rajiv Mahajan asked the government to clarify over imposition of new domicile rules in J&K. He said more than 1.3 crore population of Jammu and Kashmir has been suffering unnecessarily on account of new Domiciles rules. He said instead of triggering new controversies, the government should work hard in resolving the old issues which the patriotic people of Jammu region have been facing over the last seventy years.

Mahajan asked the government why till date the Sainik Colony has not been established in Kashmir Valley for the ex-servicemen of the Indian Army and their families in Srinagar. He said several times the land has been identified for setting up a Sainik Colony in Kashmir Valley but all in vain.

Mahajan asserted that the decks have been cleared with the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A and the J&K Government has no excuse in establishing a Sainik Colony in Kashmir Valley.

Mahajan appealed to the Lt Governor to immediately identify a land for setting up Sainik Colony in the summer capital so that a colony will be established for the former army personnel. He further appealed to the Lt Governor to allot residential plots to war widows under the Army Welfare Housing Colony.

Mahajan asked the government to first clear its stand over the aforesaid issues and make every possible step in making the life of common masses easier instead of triggering new controversies.
