Vikram Malhotra condemns move to shut-down Dogri telecast & curtailing of time slot at Doordarshan Kendra Panjtirthi

Seeks Lt Governor GC Murmu’s intervention, demand separate Dogri channel

Jammu, July 29: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) has strongly opposed the move of Prasar Bharti to shut-down and curtail time slot the Dogri language programmes being run from Jammu and demanded that the orders must be reviewed in the interest of the rich heritage.

Hitting out hard at BJP, J&K Apni Party, senior leader, Vikram Malhotra said “All this is happening under the nose of the BJP and sadly the son of the soil representing in PMO, such a step was taken is shame full.”

“People are already repenting having voted in their favour for various anti-Jammu stands. This is adding another feather to their cap,” he said.

In a press statement to the press, JKAP senior leader Vikram Malhotra said that it is an unjustified move to shut down the programmes which were being telecasted from Jammu’s office of the Door Darshan in Panjtirthi.

“The Dogri language is the pride of the people in Jammu and it should not be sidelined. The over four hours’ time slot allotted to the Dogri programmes of Jammu should continue and instead, the time must be enhanced,” said Malhotra.

The JKAP senior leader said that “Many Dogri language editors, sub-editors and journalists are associated in the promotion of the language through their programmes and awareness progammes for the farmers being run and it should continue.”

Seeking intervention of the Lt Governor Girish Chander Murmu, the JKAP senior leader said that the Prasar Bharti should review its decision and enhance the time slot allotted to the Dogri programmes from Jammu.

“We have a rich cultural heritage and it should continue to be highlighted and promoted with the programmes of public welfare through the radio programmes and rural areas of Jammu listen to these programmes as awareness for their cultivation, health, and other issues,” he said.

The information related programmes should be added and the team of presenting Dogri programmes should be strengthened with all possible help by the Government.

It may be recalled here that the Parser Bhadri, New Delhi had issued two separate orders in the month of June 29, 2020, and on July 21 curtailing the eight hours telecast of Doordarshan programmes from Doordarshan Kendra, Panjtirthi, Jammu, with the telecasting of Kashir Channel from Srinagar. The second-order, according to Malhotra, aimed at shut-down the local telecast i.e. Dogri of over four hours and replaces it with the Kashir Channel.
