    Poswal requests President of India to consider Gojri as J&K’s official language before issuing ordinance, seeks time:

     

    Jammu 24-09-2020:-Political activist of Jammu and Kashmir Eshfaq ur  Rehman Poswal has appealed to the President of  India to consider inclusion of Gojri Language in the list of official languages of J&K UT.

    In a press release, Poswal requested the President of India to consider the sentiments of 7 to 8 lakh nomadic tribal Gujjar population of J&K so that the people of this community do not feel ignored.

    In this regard, Poswal has also written a letter to the President of India requesting that “Gojri Language may also be considered for inclusion in the list of official languages of J&K UT”.

    He said that ignoring Gojri Language will deprive Gujjar Community people of J&K of availing benefits of various govt welfare schemes besides keeping these people away from the functioning of govt offices.

    It may be mentioned here that prior to the passage of bill in the Parliament regarding official languages of J&K,  Poswal had also written a letter to the Prime Minister of India Narendera Modi and the Rajya Sabha Chairman also requesting that Gojri should also be considered for inclusion in the list of official languages of J&K UT.

    Poswal said that Gujjar Community is the third largest population of in J&k and particularly Gojri Language is spoken by almost 7 to 8 lakh nomadic tribal population of J&K UT.

    Poswal, in his letter to the Honorable President of India, has sought time to meet his Excellency so that he could bring to the notice of President the concern of the Gujjar Community people of J&K.

    “The main concern over non-inclusion of Golri in the list of official languages of J&K is that the particularly around 7 to lakh people of Gujjar Community understand only Gojri Language,” Poswal mentioned in his letter to the President.

    “In such circumstances i.e non-inclusion of Gojri in the list of official languages of J&K, these people will face lot of difficulties pertaining govt works and availing benefits of welfare schemes,” he said.

    Poswal also thanked Rajya Sabha Chairman for considering his request and forwarding the same to MHA Govt of India for consideration.
