Congress All Set to Launch Kisan Rally on October 10th in Jammu.
“Won’t let Modi Government Exploit the Kisan”: Sawhney
District Congress Committee Jammu Urban today conducted a preparatory meeting for the Kisan Rally to be organised by the party on 10th October in support of the farmers’ agitation flouting the new farmer bills passed by the BJP government. The meeting was held under the leadership of Former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney General Secretary PCC Incharge District President Jammu (Urban) who criticised the Modi Government’s new farmer related laws in the meeting and declared the agenda for the rally.
Former Minister J&K Raman Bhalla, Vice President JKPCC also spoke in the meeting asserting that the new farm bills are not against the interests of the farmers. He said that he government says the three farm bills create a legal framework for farmers to conduct the business of their farm products in free manner. However, lack of funds has been the constant refrain of the state governments for not sufficiently enhancing the storage capacity. This leaves the farmers to the middlemen and private players.
Kanta Bhan Vice President JKPCC further provided that these bills are designed to further oppress the poor farmer and fill the pockets of the Corporates and help them instead of our ‘kisan’. They give the poor small and marginal farmers of India (constituting over 85 per cent of India’s farmers) no assurance of protection of their interests, their livelihoods, and their future. They make no mention whatsoever of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) regime, which is the lifeline of these poor farmers and their key to survival, as also the survival of the nation’s agriculture sector, he said.
Sawhney speaking in the meeting said that the government’s newly passed bills have met strong opposition across the country as many also question why they were introduced in a time of crisis. He attacked the government and said the new laws will make the farmers conditions worse and will disempower them. He also said that the farmers won’t trust the government again after this debacle and sham. In the meeting, it was announced that the party will extend its complete support to the farmers’ issues and fight in the face of the BJP’s undemocratic and fascist regime through the Kisan rally on the 10th of October in Jammu and join the rest of the country during these hard times. The farmers are frightened because the bills, while offering protection to farmers against price exploitation, does not prescribe the mechanism for price fixation. There is apprehension that the free hand given to private corporate houses could lead to farmer exploitation. The farmers are angry, said Sawhney, and their anger should be our shame.
District Congress Committee Office Bearers Vice Presidents DCC , General Secretaries DCC , Secretaries DCC , Congress Block Presidents , Congress Ward Presidents and Congress Workers belonging to District Jammu Urban were also present.
