International Day of Girl Child celebrated in Anantnag

As the whole world is Celebrating Girl Child day to sensitize the human population regarding importance of Girl Child and negative consequences of gender bias, following the trend department of ICDS Anantnag in-collaboration with Humanity (NGO) organised a felicitation ceremony for newborn girls at Maternity Hospital Anantnag and a rally from Govt. GHSS Anantnag to GDC for Women Anantnag with DDC Anantnag Mr. K.K.Sidha as Chief Guest who flagged off the rally and a mass awareness programme with the theme “My voice, our equal future ” in auditorium Hall of Govt. Degree College for Women’s Anantnag with ADC Anantnag Mr. Ghulam Hassan Sheikh as Chief Guest in observance of the covid-19 protocol. The programme was attended by District Prog. Officer Anantnag, Principal GDC for women, CDPO’s & other ICDS officials, members of NGO, students of GDC for Women Anantnag etc.
While addressing the gathering Mr. Sheikh enlightened the audience about the role of women in society. He also laid stress on the fact that women are equal partners in the Development of Human race and hence the gender stereotyping must end in the society.
DPO Anantnag, Mrs.Bilqees sensitized the public about the value of Girl Child and highlighted the achievements made by women folk in different throughout the world. She further added that injustice & crimes against the Girl Child viz female foeticide, child trafficking and domestic violence must end. She also highlighted the importance of Governments ambitious initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padao, Ladli Beti etc for the upliftment of women.
The speakers who addressed the audience stressed upon the parents to end domestic discrimination and gender bias which is prevalent in the society. In this connection, mothers have to play a special role to ensure equal participation of their Girl Children in every field of life viz education, sports, social programmes etc and not to confine them to the domestic chores only.
At the conclusion of the programme, different gifts & kits were distributed among
mothers of Girl child, adolescent girls, especially abled girls, girls who have shown academic excellence etc.
