Srinagar, Oct 15, KDC: Process of Conversion of Agricultural land into commercial land is going on unabated in Shilvat village of Sumbal Sub-division in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district with the Tehsildar concerned, allegedly assisting the unlawful act.
A group of locals from Shilvat village of Bandipora told news agency KDC that the conversion of agricultural land into commercial land is on rampant in this village by the influential people.
They said that the illegal land filling is on and has been done on around 3-4 canals of agricultural land situated at Herigund area of the Rakhi Shilvat village of which according to them they have the photographic proofs.
“This illegal act is being done during night hours in connivance with the Patwari concerned and Tehsildar Sumbal, who are both assisting the influential people in this illegal act,” they said.
According to locals they approached the Tehsildar Sumbal with the complaint regarding the issue but he has failed to take any action against the accused, who are said to be influential people, and they are accused to be hand in glove with these violators of law.
When contacted, Tehsildar Sumbal Firdous Ahmad pleaded his ignorance about any such violation of agricultural laws, or the matter having been brought to his notice.
Meanwhile, DC Bandipora could not be contacted for his comments over the issue as he didn’t respond to the repeated calls from KDC.
The locals appealed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to personally intervene into the matter and save the agricultural land in the area from being turned into a concrete jungle. (KDC)
