03 SMC in-charge ward officers suspended over negligence in performing their duties

Srinagar, Oct 16, KDC: Barely three days after it came to fore through a news report that large scale illegal constructions were going on unchecked in downtown Srinagar, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) suspended on charges of negligence in performing their duties.

The news item was carried out by news agency Kashmir Dot Com-(KDC), in which it was reported that illegal constructions and violations of building permission was complained from many areas of Downtown Srinagar and Ward No. 18 in particular.

As a result of the impact of KDC report, SMC on Thursday suspended three of its officers, for the mess and on charges of negligence in performing their duties, a copy of which is with KDC.

Those suspended, include Altaf Hussain Mir Incharge Ward Officer 15, Manzoor Ahmed Khan Incharge Ward Officer 10 and Jan Mohammad In-charge Officer Ward No. 18.

The order reads that pending enquiry into the matter of illegal construction and violation of Master Plan Srinagar; the above-said officers are placed under suspension, with immediate effect and were ordered to be attached with Chief Anti Encroachment Officer SMC.

Pertinent to mention here is that KDC on 12th October, 2020 submitted a report, based on the complaints of the residents of Downtown Srinagar Safakadal area, who were aghast over the ongoing large scale violation of building rules in the area and had blamed the Srinagar Municipal (SMC) Corporation officials for allowing scores of illegal buildings to come up in the otherwise already densely populated area.

A delegation of residents from various localities of Ward number 18 of Safakadal downtown Srinagar area had alleged that illegal constructions were coming up in the Downtown area at large scale, while the SMC authorities had kept their eyes shut over it, resulting in a concrete jungle coming up in the area, without any urban laws being followed.

Subsequently, SMC authorities taking the cognizance of the report suspended three concerned officers on 15th Oct 2020 and were attached with Chief Anti Encroachment Office, pending the enquiry. (KDC)
