Congress Conclude First Phase of Signature Campaign In Jammu West Against The New Land Laws in Jammu
“Won’t Allow BJP To Take Our Land”: Bhalla/Sawhney
The Congress Party continued to intensify its opposition of the new land laws of J&K, as District Congress Committee Jammu- Urban held the Signature Campain, on Wednesday, at Maheshpura Chowk, Jammu. The program saw tremendous participation from the residents of Jammu who came in big numbers to lend their signatures in a bid to reject the BJP’s land policy for J&K. The Campaign was organised by Former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney, General Secretary JKPCC and InCharge District President, Jammu Urban. Former Minister Raman Bhalla, Vice President JKPCC presided over the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla outlined the objective of the campaign to demand rollback of the land laws allowing anyone to buy land in J&K. He said that the Congress party will continue to hold Signature Campaigns in various regions of Jammu & Kashmir to get their voices heard by the government. The people of Jammu and Kashmir resent this move and seek its immediate withdrawal as it calls for exploitation. He said that the vulnerable areas and communities of the region cannot be exposed to harsh policies and measures taken by this government. A policy of permanent demographic change is aggressively being pushed to snatch our land, destroy our identity and turn us into a minority in our land, and Congress party won’t allow this, said Bhalla.
While Sawhney said that the Signature Campaign has been attracting thousands of people to join the protest and give their signatures to support the campaign because the people have recognised the violation of their rights and are not afraid to reject such draconian policies. He further added that the sweeping changes brought by the BJP government have left J&K with nothing. With an added dearth of employment and growth opportunities for the youth, the new land laws aggravate the people of J&K. This should not have been a time to strip away protection, added Sawhney.
Launching an attack on the BJP leadership, Manmohan Singh Pinka, General Secretary JKPCC, said that the Central Government has ignored the wishes of the people of J&K who demanded protection, development and integration. Instead, distressed communities in J&K face the fear of dispossession of their land and rights.
Congress leader Rajnish Sharma also interacted with the gathering, invoking public sentiment for Jammu Kashmir’s rights and identity which he said has been snatched along with statehood by the current regime. Further criticising the new land laws of J&K, he said that the Congress party efforts would not stop unless the decision is nullified by the government of India.
