    IMD issues flash floods warning for Jammu and Kashmir

    The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir due to the impact of fresh wet spell expected to start from July 19.

    As per the weather department, lower and middle level tropospheric winds from north Arabian Sea is most likely to interact with Easterly Winds (from Bay of Bengal) from July 19 to July 21, likely causing widespread rain at most places in Jammu and Kashmir.

    Most places of Jammu, mainly in Pir Panjal Range and plains of Jammu division, are likely to see widespread heavy to very heavy rain, thunder with lightning from July 19 to July 21, while Kashmir may see moderate to heavy rain, thunder with lightning during the same period, according to IMD.

    The weather department has warned that heavy rain may cause flash floods in J&K, landslides and shooting stones at vulnerable places, along with waterlogging and minor floods over low-lying areas.

    “Probable impacts due to fresh wet spell include moderate to high risk of flash flood in J&K, temporary disruption of surface traffic mainly on Jammu-Srinagar, Srinagar-Leh, Doda- Kishtwar, Mughal Road from 19th to 21st July 2021, landslides and shooting stones at vulnerable places, waterlogging and minor floods over low-lying areas and suspension of agricultural and horticultural operations during above period,” IMD said.
