Two non-local women with the assistance of a Sumo driver abducted an infant from the lap of her mother at Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, family and official sources said on Wednesday.
The incident happened yesterday at around 11:00 am when a woman namely Mehfooza w/o Tariq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Kunanposhpora, Kupwara boarded a vehicle (sumo) near Raj Palace hotel Kupwara, to take her 27-days old baby to Handwara hospital.
“When she boarded the vehicle two non local women were inside it along with the driver. As the vehicle reached near Handwara Bypass, the driver asked the woman to de-board from it as they are going from another route”, they said.
As she was coming out, the non-local women snatched the baby from her and kicked her down and the vehicle ran away. The woman raised hue and cry but to no avail, they said.
She later narrated the entire episode before the police following which a case has been registered under relevant sections of law. A police officer when contacted said that they have received a complaint and have taken cognizance of the incident. “We are looking through all the angles and have launched the investigations into it”, the office said.
