NDPI chief accuses BJP of avoiding assembly elections and continuing LG rule in J&K

Kashmir and perpetuating direct Central rule. While addressing to media today the NDPI Chief Rajesh Gupta
lambasted at BJP he accused the Election Commission of delaying elections. “For more than four years, there has
been proxy rule by the BJP,” said Gupta, referring to the ongoing President’s rule. “The BJP, in collaboration with
the Election Commission, is denying democratic rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP doesn’t
want elections here because its vote bank has shrunk,” said Gupta.
Gupta said one more lie of BJP exposed the party recently two senior national BJP general secretaries BL
Santosh (Organizations) and Tarun Chug, Incharge Jammu and Kashmir, claimed that Assembly elections will be
held in the Union Territory in April-May which gave one more shock to J&K public. The NDPI has accused the BJP
of avoiding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and perpetuating direct Central rule.
NDPI leader said, “that BJP is repeatedly cheating the J&K people, and BJP is denying democratic rights to the
people of Jammu and Kashmir. For how long will they deny assembly elections and restoration of statehood?”
said Rajesh Gupta, President NDPI J&K. “They (the BJP) cannot escape from elections forever. If not today or
tomorrow, one day they have to hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. Gupta further added, that the
opposition parties have been holding a large number of public meetings across the region, waiting for an
election that is yet to be announced despite talk of it rolling around by the last year-end.

2019, the Centre promised to hold elections in the newly-formed Union Territory after the delimitation exercise

months ago. Then the electoral rolls were revised and published in November. In October, Home Minster Amit
Shah had said the elections will be held soon after publication of electoral rolls.Things appear to have changed
though, going by the state BJP.
