Leh, 24- May: Administration of the UT of Ladakh in collaboration with Indian Army Organised a campaign at Pangong Tso lake to celebrate International Day of Biodiversity.
The three daylong event which commenced on 20 May was organised in collaboration with Department of Wildlife Protection, UT Ladakh, United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Secure Himalayas and other departments of UT of Ladakh.
In a statement issued, PRO (defence) Srinagar said that an exhibition showcasing biodiversity, screening of awareness documentaries and videos on lifestyle for environment were the main highlights of the campaign.
Tanuj Nagpal, State Project Officer, UNDP, Secure Himalayas, conducted an awareness lecture on sustainable use and restoration of Himalayan (high range) ecosystems.
Dhawan Kumar Rawat, DFO, Leh Department of Forests, UT of Ladakh also addressed the gathering and stressed upon the conservation of the environment and importance of plantation drive in the region.
Community members of nearby villages of Lukung, Phobrang and Spangmik and tourists from all over the country came in large numbers to attend the campaign and make it a success. Mission LiFE pledge was taken by community members, tourists, officials and Indian Army personnel to protect the environment.
