Srinagar, June 13: J&K is facing shortage of local officers in the Indian Forest Service as vacancies in the induction quota have gone up to 35 due to non availability of officers for filling up the slots.
Reportedly 13 J&K Forest Service officers are in place at present against 48 slots reserved for them in the IFS. As per rules, an officer should have eight years service as ACF for his/her induction into IFS.
The shortage has arisen due to failure of authorities to hold Assistant Conservator of Forests examination for 27 years.
The Ministry has written to the state government to send proposals to the Union Public Service Commission for convening a meeting of selection committee for induction, but we don’t have eligible officers as per rules.
By ending 2018, the number of vacancies would swell up to 41 as six more IFS officers would retire by then.
