Islamabad, June 18: Pakistan on Sunday said that two of its diplomatic officials from its consulate in Afghanistan had gone missing since Friday.
The Foreign Ministry said the officials went missing while commuting to Pakistan by road, reports Xinhua news agency.
“The matter has been raised with the relevant Afghan authorities for their safety and recovery at the earliest,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Afghan authorities said three investigating groups had been set up to ensure their safe recovery.
“Pakistan has requested the Afghan government that all efforts may be made to ensure the early recovery of our officials,” a ministry spkesman said.
The Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan, Omar Zakhilwal, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, I am aware of it and so are our relevant institutions. They are searching for the missing officials,” Zakhilwal told Xinhua.
