    Families of slain Yatris to get Rs 18 lac each as compensation

    Srinagar, July 14: The seven Amarnath Yatris who were killed in a suspected militant attack at Batengo in Islamabad district on Srinagar Jammu highway on Monday have in aggregate received a compensation of Rs 18 lacs each. It has come from diverse sources including the state government.
    On Tuesday, the state government in a cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of CM Mehbooba Mufti decided the compensation package for the slain and injured pilgrims. The meeting announced a compensation of Rs 6 lacs each for the deceased, while those grievously injured were given a compensation of Rs 2 lacs each and those who had received minor injuries were given Rs 1 lac each.
    The union government has announced Rs 7 lacs each as compensation to the next of the kin of the deceased.
    Although the state government categorised the injured into two categories, however, the union government has announced Rs 1 lac each to all the injured irrespective of the nature of injury.
    Meanwhile, the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), which manages the annual Hindu pilgrimage announced a compensation of Rs 6 lacs each to the next of kin of the deceased. The shrine board has also categorised the injured into two categories depending upon the severity of the injuries.
    The categorisation of injured have earned those severely injured an amount of Rs 4.5 lacs while those having suffered minor injuries have been compensated by an amount of Rs 1.75 lacs each.
    The state government, earlier, offered the Rs 5 lacs compensation each to the tourist family that was killed in Gulmarg when the Gandola was hit by a pine tree.20031647_1472821596107748_867083549043540382_n
