Poonch, July 31: The SDM Surankote Dr Basharat Hussain alongwith team of Officers of Revenue, Muncipality, PWD, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Visted the areas where rain/flood has caused huge loss of shopkeepers and others residents near Unique Hotel in the main Market Surankote due to choking of Nallah at the under construction shuttered Culvert.
The GREF Authorities are laying concrete pavement in the Main Market including the construction of culvert over the main Nallah catering the drainage system of the Skt town. Last night due to choking of this Nallah at the under-construction site, the rain water ran into 40-50 shops and into the residentional houses causing huge loss worth in lakhs.
The SDM Dr Basharat, alongwith Tehsildar Rohit , Dy SP Asghar and SHO Ajay stood with the shopkeepers and other effected residents till midnight and supervised the rescue operation.
Today early in the morning the shopkeepers and and other effected gatherd near Bus stand Surankote , blocked the road and made heavy slogans against GREF and demanded for breaking of the low height culvert and construction of a new one with suitable height so that the water may flow without any hindrance. The SDM alongwith other Officers reached the spot, interacted with the gathering, passified them with the the assurance that the matter shall be taken up the with DC Poonch / higher authorities for appropriate necessary action. The people then lifted the protest and the traffic resumed accordingly. Sinmutaeously the roads/lanes have been cleared from silt and other undesirable matter with water by using the fire service vehicles and PHE tankers.
He has also visted the very site where flood control Deptt is laying crates at Mirza More near Fazalabaad Bridge and inspected the on- going work.He has also visted the Bela and Potha colonies where about 50-60 families are living in the danger zones of Suran rivers.
The residents of these areas have demanded for immediate construction of bridge over the river from Kallar kattal side which was washed away during flash floods of 2014.The construction work of the bridge has been strucked and remained sub-Judice due to the dispute in site selection and now the matter has been resolved by the court.
The people of Surankote have widely appreciated the prompt action of Administration in this very critical juncture.
