    Ace sportspersons Wadoo, Abid, Mittali appointed JKSSC Coaches

    Jammu, Feb 11: The Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council (JKSSC) today appointed ace footballer, Mehraj-ud-Din Wadoo, prominent cricketer Abid Nabi and noted Gymnast Mittali Dogra as Junior Coaches in recognition of their laudable contribution in sports arena.
    The appointment of footballer Wadoo, cricketer Abid and gymnast Mittali as Coaches for respective sports was made with the approval of the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is the President of the State Sports Council.
    Mehraj-ud-Din Wadoo is a famous footballer from J&K who is a part of the national football squad and also plays for Sporting Club Goa.
    Hailing from Srinagar, Wadoo started his football career as a striker with Iqbal Sports Club Srinagar and then moved on to play for J&K Police. After joining professional football league, Wadoo played for HAL, ITI, Sporting Goa, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.
    Given his talent, Wadoo was picked up for the national football squad where he scored the winning goal against Bangladesh in the SAFF Cup finals at Karachi in December 2005. He was also a member of the Indian squad that won Nehru Cup in 2007, AFC Challenge Cup in 2008 and the Nehru Cup in 2009.
    Abid Nabi is a young cricketer from J&K who has played 30 first class test matches and 30 one day matches, besides 25 T-20 matches in Ranji Trophy. Abid set the record of scoring fastest 100 in Ranji Trophy in 2010. He is an all-rounder, with right arm fast bowler and right handed batsman.
    Hailing from Sonawar, Srinagar Abid has also played 15 matches in Indian cricket league 2006-2007, as part of Delhi Giants.
    He played two times in the Dileep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy North Zone.
    Mittali Dogra is an individual rhythmic gymnast. She has represented India in international gymnastic competitions. She competed at world championships, including 2009 World Rhythmic Gymnastics championship.
    Mittali made J&K proud by creating history to be the first player and coach who represented India in the prestigious Commonwealth Games. Moreover, Mittali was named 2nd best gymnast in 23rd Senior National Gymnastics Championship held at Thane in Maharashtra in 2014.
    Meanwhile, Minister for Finance, Labour, Employment & Culture, Dr Haseeb Drabu has felicitated budding sportspersons Umar Nazir of Malikpora, Pulwama and Rashida Simnani, of Drabgam, Pulwama for their accomplishment in Cricket and Belt-Wrestling respectively.
    Pertinently, Umar Nazir, 21, a young cricketer from J&K, has made it to the prestigious North Zone squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali T-20 Trophy to be played at CCI Mumbai from Monday. Right-arm fast bowler, Umar is the first cricketer from J&K who has clinched 9 wickets in an innings.
    Rashida Simnani, 17, clinched bronze medal in Belt-Wrestling at 62nd National-level School Games organized by National School Games Federation of India at Pune recently.
    Studying at Government Higher Secondary School, Pulwama, Rashida had participated in 55+ weight category. She was among 14 students who were representing J&K in school games at the national level.
    In his felicitation message, Dr Drabu while wished great success ahead to Umar and Rashida in their sports career said that they have not only brought laurels to district Pulwama, but the whole state as well.
    He said the J&K youth have got immense talent and they make a mark whenever provided with an opportunity to exhibit their potentialities. (KNS)
