Australia were 288 for three at the close of Day 1 at Brisbane. Skipper Steve Smith was unbeaten on 110 with Peter Handscomb not out 64.
Early on the day, Smith won the toss of the pink-ball first Test against Pakistan and opted to bat first. But the hosts lost two wickets, those of Matt Renshaw for 71 and David Warner for 32 in successive overs, but since then it’s a batting show at Woolloongabba. Usman Khawaja (4) was the other wicket.
