Krishi Vigyan Kendra Bandipora organized Awareness Camp on “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Act” at village Bothu Bandipora, the programme was attended by over two hundred farmers including farm women besides around hundred students from local secondary school participated in the said Programme. Dr.Munir-ul-Hassan Samoon, Programme Coordinator highlighted the importance of the programme and various steps involved in registering the farmer’s varieties and stressed upon significance in protecting and safeguarding the farmers rights while providing for an effective system for the protection of farmers rights and deliberated on the issues and concerns of the farming community. Dr Tariq sultan scientist (Agronomy) deliberated on the various aspects of the Programme PPV & FRA and the crops included in the scheme and its benefits to the farming community. Dr Bilal Ahmad Bhat Scientist (Agri.Extension) gave detailed account on the objectives of Protection of Plant varieties & Farmers Rights act and deliberated on role and importance of farmers organizations in protection of plant varieties. Dr Farooq Ahangar Scientist (Plant Protection) enlightened the participants about the role of PPV & FRA in protecting the farmer’s rights. Dr.Arif Hussain scientist (Floriculture) stressed on insitu conservation of traditional varieties and emphasized on organic farming in the area.
At the end of the programme, farmer-scientist interaction session was held and the panel of Scientists satisfactorily answered the various queries of the farmers regarding the act.
