Srinagar, Aug 25: Bandipora created history Wednesday by holding the first ever football match under lights in Kashmir.
The match was played at Sher-i-Kashmir sports stadium Bandipora on Wednesday evening between Real Kashmir FC and Muhammdan FC Sopore.
It was the semi-final of ongoing Late Sofi Ghulam Muhammad football tournament. The match started at 7:30 pm, witnessing a huge audience of sports lovers from across Bandipora district, Sopore and Srinagar.
” The match evoked massive response from the people of Bandipora and sports lovers from across the Kashmir, taking the sports in Kashmir especially in Bandipora to next level,” said Ubair Sofi, organizer of the tournament.
Both the teams failed to score in first half of the game. As the second half of the game commenced, Real Kashmir FC scored its first goal, making the match more interesting.
Muhammadan FC Sopore managed to score back the goal in the dying moments of the game, however, the match was abandoned as soon as Muhammadan Sopore FC scored the goal due to an altercation that broke between spectators and players of Real Kashmir FC.
“As soon as Sopore FC scored the equalizer, the spectators stormed the field in celebration. Meanwhile, one of the spectators hit a player of Real Kashmir FC on his head knocking him down unconscious, forcing the Real Kashmir FC to leave the ground. The match was then abandoned with just 10 minutes left in the game,” said a witness.
