Schedule, unscheduled power cuts is not a new phenomenon in Jammu and Kashmir but as the winter approaches things become bad to worst. Even a spell of rains cause power curtailment for hours and the recent rains (on Sunday) has exposed the tall claim of authorities in PDD regarding power Scenario.
Recent rains on Monday has left Jammuties to have long power curtailment and some parts that power cut lasted for more than eighteen hours hampering all the routine commercial as well as daily activities.
These power cuts whether schedule or unscheduled puts serious question mark over the preparedness of authorities at the helm of affairs in Power Development Department (PDD) always claiming to provide electricity 24×7. It has been observed quite often that PDD during summer blame load shedding, extra load, heating of transformers and in winters (rainy days) shed their responsibility on winds or heavy rains.
One can assume that if this is the situation in Jammu city what can be the situation in rural as well as hilly areas and how people residing there are coping up with schedule unscheduled power cuts and various repots coming across Jammu explain the their worry complaining that the authorities resort to pesky power cuts with a spell of rains. They regret that this phenomenon has been going on from several years nothing has changed except the tariff.
Be it summer or winter power Development Authorities always makes promises of providing better supply to consumers, but it seems that the dream of streamlining below par power supply in will never be accomplished as there authorities have completely failed to make effective planning to deal with such situations and provide regular power supply is case extreme weather conditions.
On the other hand, consumers in metered areas also complained about pesky power cuts ranging from four to five hours. They said the authorities instead of providing round the clock power supply to metered areas resorts to unscheduled power cuts sans any official schedule.
