KULGAM, DECEMBER 15: District Development Commissioner, Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, today convened a meeting to review the action plan regarding winter preparedness and snow clearance arrangements in the district.
Executive Engineers of R&B, PHE, PDD, Mechanical Engineering, besides Principals of Government Degree College Kulgam, GDC Damhal Hanjipora and GDC Kilam, SDM DH Pora, CEO, CPO, AD FCS&CA, and other concerned attended the meeting.
The meeting was informed that men and machinery have been kept ready to meet any eventuality. It was given out that a control room at Chawalgam has been established where 10 snow-clearance machines have already been deployed. Pertinently ME Department has responsibility of clearing snow on 437 kms of road length, while as R&B Department clears 96 kms in the district.
The Assistant Director FCS&CA informed the meeting that 1643 quintals of sugar has been distributed among the consumers. Similarly, 14900 quintals of rice has been dumped in advance for 3 months in 55 locations which are not, otherwise, accessible during heavy snowfall.
For augmenting the power scenario in the district, the meeting was informed that action plan of Rs 4.03 crore for upgrading the transmission and distribution system has been approved.
The DDC directed strict action against encroachers and called for proper sanitation measures in the district. He directed the officers to mobilise the manpower to stymie any construction without the prior approval of the EO municipality.
He also directed the concerned authorities to activate the control rooms and equipping them with adequate manpower and machinery. He sought interdepartmental coordination for better coordinated response to eventuality.
