Samba, Feb 10: Police Thursday registered a formal case against the Revenue official for demolishing some graves during a drive in Samba district of Jammu region. The case was lodged on the directions of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Pertinently, during a demolition drive in Samba, the Revenue Department officials under the supervision of Block Development Officer in a bid to develop a graveyard into a play field had demolished dozens of graves and this action had evoked lot of criticism and resentment from Muslim community.
Special Officer Auqaf Islamia Committee Jammu Kashmir, Raj Muhammad said that the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took strong note of this act after members of Auqaf and locals met Auqaf Minister Farooq Ahmed Andrabi. “Locals along with Auqaf Minister met Chief Minister who directed Director General of Police Mr SP Ved to file a formal FIR against the Revenue officials,” he said.
Raj Muhammad added that an FIR has also been registered against Block Development Officer Anshu Man Singh who provoked and directed officials for the action. He said that the said piece of land is sole property of Aqaf-e-Islamia and since long was notified for grave yard, but the some communal elements want to develop a play field there.
Meanwhile, locals protested against the said BDO and described him an ‘agent working for a BJP Minister.’ Locals said that the BDO is playing communal card to viatate the atmosphere in the area. (CNS
