JAMMU, FEBRUARY 14: Continuing its drive against the vendors selling tobacco products without having specific health warning as mandated under law, a team of Food Safety Officers of Drugs and Food Control Organization under the overall supervision of Assistant Controller Food, Municipal Limits Jammu conducted surprise raid at Shalamar, Kanak Mandi, City Chowk, Bahu Plaza, Jewel & Raghu Nath Bazar areas of Jammu.
During inspection a Pan House at Bahu Plaza, Jammu was found indulging in selling of cigarettes without specific health warning, pictorial depiction as mandated under section 7 of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.
The inspection team seized 85 packets of cigarettes on spot and the legal action as warranted under Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 shall be initiated against the defaulters in due course of time.
Officials of the department said that such inspections are a regular exercise of the department but the market surveillance in the coming days will be further intensified to stop the sale of such tobacco products.
“Sale of tobacco products without specific health warning, pictorial depiction is a punishable offence, all the vendors dealing in cigarettes and other tobacco products are hereby advised not to purchase or sell the cigarettes and other tobacco products without bearing specific health warning failing which, action as warranted under law shall be initiated against the defaulters” the department appealed
