Imphal, Dec 15: Five police personnel were killed and as many seriously injured in two separate ambushes today at Chandel district by suspected NSCN (IM) militants.
Police said in the first ambush at Lokchao, near Moreh three personnel died.
Two other policemen, who were part of a team, who went to the site to help the victims were also ambushed at Bongang and died.
A police convoy from Moreh was moving towards Tengnoupal where Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was coming to inaugurate it as a new district when suspected militants using sophisticated weapons fired towards the personnel.
A policeman died on the spot and two others later succumbed to their injuries.
