    Gareeb Democratic Party protests, demands statehood for JK, roll of land eviction orders highlights various issues faced by public

    Jammu, 15-Jan:Members of the Gareeb Democratic Party (GDP) staged a protest and demanded restoration of statehood for Jammu -Kashmir and roll back of land eviction order besides highlighting the problems being faced by the people.

    A large number of Party activists assembled at its Jammu headquarters in Nanak Nagar areas and staged an anti-administration demonstration.

    Under the leadership of its Jammu Kashmir President Bashir Ahmed Ahanger, the protesters demanded restoration of statehood.

    The protesters also criticized JK government’s anti-poor policies, which included recent land eviction notices to the poor, rising unemployment among youth, uncontrolled price rise and water and power scarcity.

    Speaking on the occasion, Party President Bashir Ahmed Ahanger said that the Jammu and Kashmir administration failed to address the basic issues of the public. The people in urban pockets are being supplied with polluted water while the population in rural belts is deprived of tap water. Moreover the frequent power cuts make people’s lives miserable.

    State president further said that GDP also demanded statehood, which the central government had promised on the floor of the parliament.

    He said that control the unemployment and youth centric policies should be framed so that more and employment will be generated.

    The party also criticized the government for the recent order of eviction of state landholders for state land and demanded that the government must roll back the decision for the poor, who have marginal land and caught big fishes.

    Ahmed also appealed LG administration to intervene and amicably solve the issue of protesting government employees of various departments including Kashmiri Pandits and reserved category employees, who moved out of Kashmir after recent target killing. He demanded fool-proof security and a peaceful atmosphere for the package and reserved category move employees in the valley.
