Govt Dental College Jammu celebrates “No Tobacco Day” On the occasion of “World No Tobacco Day” a month long activities were organized at Government Dental College Jammu in co-ordination with Department of Public Health Dentistry, Oral Maxillofacial Pathology and Department of oral Medicine and Radiology. It was celebrated with the theme Tobacco: Threat to our environment.
Dr. Rakesh Krishan Gupta, Principal Lauded the awareness drive conducted by Department of Community Dentistry and other Department pan across Jammu regarding how oral cancers and precancers lesions can be prevented by counseling and awareness by demonstrating side effects of use of tobacco and tobacco related products.
The Tobacco Cessation Center was established by the Department of Public Health Dentistry on 31 May 2017 to mark the celebration of, “No Tobacco Day ,ever since Tobacco cessation Center has been functional and providing its services of counciling and helping tobacco abusers to quit Tobacco. Every year approx. 800-1000 Tobacco abusers are counciled by the center. This year 8 tobacco abusers who by various counseling sessions at TCC had quit Tobacco totally namely, Kuldeep Kumar, Amrish, Nitish, Suresh Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Mohd Ishaq, Roshan Lal, Mohan Lal were facilitated by Principal Indira Gandhi Govt. Dental College, Jammu Dr. Rakesh Krishan Gupta .
Tobacco cessation center Department of public Health Dentistry Indira Gandhi Govt. Dental College Jammu in association with Department of Oral Pathology & Oral Medicine celebrated, “No Tobacco Day” with theme, “Threat to our environment “. The Department of Public Health Dentistry has been conducting awareness amongst masses at jails, industrial areas, Slum areas, Malls, Schools, Railway stations, Colleges etc. since last one month. The Interns posted in the Department performed skits to make people aware of the harmful effects of tobacco at the above mentioned places.
Department of Oral Pathology conducted a webinar on topic “Menace of Tobacco and its role in epidemiology of Oral Cancers”& Department of Oral Medicine distributed pallets depicting harmful effects of Tobacco on humans to the public/ patients coming to the department of Oral medicine throughout the last week.
