JAMMU, MARCH 23: Expressing dismay over the distortion of Union Home Minister, Mr Rajnath Singh’s statement regarding Jammu and Kashmir by UNI Urdu Service, an official spokesman today said it is not expected from a premiere wire service to report the statement made by the Home Minister in the Rajya Sabha in such a casual manner.
Pertinently, while replying to a starred question regarding situation in Jammu and Kashmir raised by Choudhary Sukhram Singh Yadav in the Rajya Sabha on 22nd March 2017, the Union Home Minister had in a detailed reply enumerated the measures being taken by the State and the Central Government on security and political fronts in Kashmir.
While referring to the political outreach in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Rajnath Singh told the House “that an all-party delegation visited Kashmir during the unrest last year, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti had even written a letter, inviting all such (separatist) forces to talk to the visiting delegation. However they still did not turn up.”
The State Govt spokesman said while all the English language newspapers, within and outside the State, have veritably reported the Union Home Minister’s statement, unfortunately, a section of the Urdu press have used the UNI Urdu Service the copy, wherein the statement of Mr Rajnath Singh in this regard has been completely presented in a distorted manner creating an impression that the Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti was invited for talks among other groups amid unrest, but she didn’t turn up.
“The matter was this morning taken up with the concerned at UNI Urdu Service, New Delhi and they have been asked to issue the necessary corrigendum in this regard at the earliest after they acknowledged the grave mistake,” the spokesman said adding that the Government expects the media to cross-check the facts, before rushing with reports, especially pertaining to the proceedings of the Parliament
