    Induct Sikh advocate as High Court judge: Wazir

    Jammu, Sept 17: State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board president T S Wazir has urged the State and the Central Governments to induct a Sikh community senior lawyer as J&K High Court judge.
    In a joint press conference of SGPB, District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Jammu, Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees of Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Shiromani Akali Dal Badal, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar, Sikh Intellectual Circle and other organisations, Wazir appealed to the State and Central Governments to nominate a Sikh lawyer from Jammu and Kashmir High Court as a judge. There are numerous Sikh lawyers in J&K High Court who are competent for the post of Judge of High Court, he added.
    Wazir further said that in the history of judiciary in Jammu and Kashmir, no Sikh from Jammu and Kashmir has ever been appointed as Judge of the High Court since independence although there were prominent and competent Sikh lawyers who could serve as Judge.
    Sikhs had given their lives for the nation whether it is independence 1947, war 1962, 1965, 1971, Kargil and militancy. Sikhs have been always deprived of their rights and have to always fight and strive for their rights.
    The leaders of various Sikh organizations, jointly appealed to the State and Central Governments for the nomination of a Sikh lawyer from any region of the State as per his/ her competence and experience.
    Prominent among those present included Jagjit Singh, president, DGPC Jammu, Avtar Singh Khalsa-general secretary, Jathedar Mohinder Singh, Member DGPC and president Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) J&K, Harjinder Singh Raina, Member DGPC, Kuldeep Singh, vice president, Manmohan Singh, Mohinder Singh, Surinder Singh, Surjeet Singh and Narinder Singh Khalsa.445561709201717056414
