International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking :National Level Awareness Organised By GDC Bhaderwah:

A National level online awareness program was organized by GDC Bhaderwah under the guidance and patronage of Dr. K.K Sharma Principal of the College to commemorate international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on 26-06-2020.The activities organized by the college included poster making and slogan writing  and ideas presentation apart from a Multiple  Choice Questions based Quiz on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. More than 300 students including  NCC and NSS cadets and faculty members across the colleges and universities from different states and Union Territories participated in the awareness program especially quiz competition and ideas presentation  events.260 participants  participated in Quiz and rest participants  in Slogan writing  and ideas  sharing.

The event with a theme better knowledge for better care was targeted  on addiction which  is a chronic disorder with biological, psychological, social and environmental factors influencing its development and maintenance. Menace of substance abuse and addiction is a  worldwide phenomenon and the teens are a most vulnerable group due to certain biological aspects of their growth and development. Teenagers have an over-active impulse to seek pleasure and less ability to consider the consequences, they are especially vulnerable when it comes to the temptations of drugs and alcohol. And because the internal reward systems are still being developed, a teen’s ability to bounce back to normal after using drugs may be compromised due to how drugs affect the brain. These hard facts demand that youth should be actively involved in awareness programs by providing them authentic information and effective counseling about harmful effects of substance abuse and addiction. At the same time parents, teachers and society at large need to be sensitized about the psychology and biology behind the vulnerabilities of teenagers to the menace of substance abuse.

Principal  of the College Dr K.K.Sharma congratulated all the participants  from different  institutions  of the country and he thanked the organizers and the IQAC team of the College  for managing this National  level event under quality initiatives of Higher Education Department and NAAC. All the participants  shall be given E-Certificates  for participation  and the overwhelming  response.
