JKAP opposes attempt to open liquor shops in City of Temples

Jammu, June 25: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) has strongly opposed to any move to open liquor shops in Jammu.

Issuing a press statement here, JKAP, senior leader, Vikram Malhotra said that Jammu is known and regarded as City of Temples and the concerned department should desist from issuing permission to open more liquor shops in the Jammu.

“In a way, it would give rise to liquor consumption and people will be addicted to the liquor which should be discouraged in Jammu, a place which is known as city of temples,” Malhotra said.

He was concerned about the decision taken by the officials to open more liquor shops to generate revenue from the people instead of making efforts to encourage ban on liquor consumption.

“Jammu should not be made addicted to the liquor. We will oppose any more in future. The Government should take welfare steps for the people and discourage opening of liquor shops,” said Malhotra.

He said that Jammu already has so many shops in every knock and corner and they should be closed down. “The people are suffering due to liquor consumption and many anti-social activities are associated with it,” he said.

Malhotra said that the people are worried about the electricity bills; they have to pay during the period of covid lockdown in Jammu. “Government should not charge bills for the electricity from the people during the period of lockdown,” he demanded.

He said that “On the one hand, the people are being asked to pay their bills, and on the other, the electricity is not being supplied properly. In these humid and hot summers, many areas of the Jammu have been witnessing unscheduled power cuts despite metering of all the areas.”

Earlier, deputations of people from different places called on JKAP senior leaders’ including former minister Manjit Singh, former legislator Vijay Bakaya, Vikram Malhotra and Narmata Sharma and appraised them about the problems being faced by them.
