Poonch,15-Apr: As part of their class work, Poonch Campus University of Jammu organizes a field visit of the Students of Semester 1st to the newly established Vermicompost pit.
The Students of the Department of Sericulture visited Vermicompost pit as part of their field work.
To make it more vibrant and beneficial for the Students of the Department of Sericulture Poonch Campus, the Vermicompost pit was redesigned, its Capacity was Enhanced and also fencing of the Vermicompost Pit was done to make it safe from any kind of trespassing.
While congratulating the students and staff of the Department of Sericulture Poonch Campus, Prof. Dipankar Sengupta Director Poonch Campus said that the vermicompost is a preferred nutrient source for organic farming. It is eco- friendly, non-toxic, consumes low energy input for composting and is a recycled biological product and the most important it is an environmentally friendly technology.
Dr Rubia Bukhari I/C Department of Sericulture briefed the students about the structure, dimensions and importance of the Vermicompost pit in Sericulture. The students showed their keen interest to know about the entire process of the Vermicompost.
Students were also briefed by Dr Bukhari about the techniques being used for establishing Vermicompost pit. She also informed the Students about the importance of earthworms and Cow dung while making the manure from the Vermicompost pit.
After this, Students carried away the cleanliness drive and dumped all the waste material extracted from the Cow dung.
The initiative was taken on the direction of Director Poonch Campus Prof. Dipankar Sengupta Sir. There were repeated directions from the Director to arrange frequent visits of students to Vermicompost pit and Mulberry garden.
All the faculty members of the Department of Sericulture Dr Suraksha Chanotra, Dr Muzafar Ahmad Bhat and Miss Sumya Kapoor besides non-teaching staff members; Mr Mohd Sageer, Mr Sandeep and Mr Arjun were also present at the Vermicompost site.
