Udhampur: Though the reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy through their schools of thought succeeded in eradicating the social evils from society and one among of these evils was child marriage, It is very astonishing that such an evil still prevails in our society now a days. Despite the laws framed in our country to prevent the child marriage, there are the people in our society who care little to abide by these laws when it comes to child marriage. The reports said that an incident of child marriage occurred in Katwalt area of Ramnagar Tehsil of District Udhampur where a 13-year-old girl has been married to man around 35 years of age by her parents. The reports added that the relatives of minor girl besides the men in Panchayat were also present during the illegal ceremony. The illegal marriage took place before few days. After getting the information about the illegal marriage, Social Welfare Department Ramnagar took the initiative to take the offenders under law and to declare the marriage as invalid. The Ramnagar Police was informed about the matter. After getting the information Ramnagar police without wasting any moment started the investigations into the case. When our reporter spoke to SDPO Ramnagar G R Bhardwaj over the matter, he said that FIR has been registered under the Child Marriage Act and has initiated further investigations and assured strict action against the culprits. It is to mention that in India a girl can not be married before attaining the age of eighteen years.
