Srinagar, Feb 15: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik was arrested on Wednesday to prevent him from marching towards Kulgam, said a spokesman.
He said that a police party raided the residence of Malik in Maisuma and arrested him.
The joint resistance leadership has called for a march to south Kashmir’s Kulgam today to express solidarity with four militants and two civilians killed on Sunday during a gunfight and ensuing clashes.
Meanwhile Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Wednesday to prevent him from marching towards Kulgam, said a spokesman.
Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, media advisor of the Mirwaiz, said that a huge posse of policemen was deployed outside the Nigeen residence of the Mirwaiz to prevent him from moving out.
