Anantnag, Dec 15: The Mirwaiz South Kashmir and Chairman of Ummat e Islami Jammu Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir, today visited the house of Basit Rasool Dar, a Hizbul Mujahideen militant who was martyred yesterday in South Kashmir’s Bijbehara and paid rich tributes to him for sacrificing his life for the freedom movement of Kashmir.
Basit had picked up arms in October and was deeply hurt when Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani’s was martyred in a gunfight on 8 July 2016. After Wani’s killing months long civilian uprising started in Kashmir in which around 100 people were killed by the forces.
While addressing a gathering at Basit’s home in Marhama, Bijbehara, Mirwaiz Qazi Ahmed Yasir said that a militant from an economically sound family denotes that the sentiment goes beyond economics. “The young boys who are picking up guns again now after Burhan Wani’s killing is a serious concern and the government should take note of it,” he told the gathering. “The cause for more young boys picking up arms against India is what the government has been doing here. They have forced youth to follow this path as there has been no development in solving the Kashmir dispute.”
He also paid rich tributes to veteran pro-freedom leader Sofi Muhammad Akbar on his death anniversary, reiterating that we should continue his mission. “Sofi Sahib was a great leader and had love for the nation and till his last breathe fought against the oppressive regimes,” he said.
Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir along with party officials and other people is also holding a sit-in demonstration against the continuous detention of Moulana Sarjan Barkati and many other detainees who have been picked up by police during the months of uprising.
