Dotted with potholes and uneven surface, the road from Natipora to Nowgam Bypass is taking a heavy toll on the commuters. The ugly condition of the road sparked protest on Friday, while people alleged that Roads and Buildings department has been acting as mute spectator though the officials are being apprised about the pathetic condition of the road on daily basis. Right from Natipora to Nowgam Bypass, the road is in dilapidated condition as a result the locals from Budshah Nagar, Mehboob Colony, Naik Bagh and Nowgam have been facing lot of inconvenience. The damaged road has also been giving tough time to commuters and school going children. In absence of repairs, the road is dotted with dozens of potholes subjecting commuters to inconvenience. “The dilapidated road poses risk of accidents. Several vehicles have been damaged due to deep potholes. We have apprised the concerned authorities about the matter but no action was taken,” Suhail Ahmed from Naikbagh told CNS. The locals who staged a protest against R&B Department said the Natipora-Nowgam road was macadamized two years ago. “The road has caved in at several places. This has endangered the commuters. It is ironical that Roads and Buildings department has failed to take measures to even fill up the potholes to prevent accidents on the busy stretch,” they said. They said problem is compounded by blocked drains. Due to slight rains, locals said a vast stretch of road gets water-logged. They appealed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to look into the matter. An official from Roads and Buildings department said that they will undertake repairs after weather improves.
