    Only Aadhaar Card Holder to Get Ration Cards from April: Government

    Jammu, Feb 5, : The Jammu Kashmir Government has made Aadhaar mandatory for availing ration related subsidies and other benefits but has given two months time for citizens to get the unique identification number. The Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Chowdhary Zulifqar said that no ration cards will be issued to those who fail to get mandatory Aadhaar Cards.
    “From April only ration card holders with Aadhaar cards can procure ration from CAPD ration depots. We have speeded up the process of providing Aadhaar cards to every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Minister said.
    He said 604 machines have been installed in 302 Aadhaar centres where people can get their unique identification numbers. “Two Aadhaar machines have been installed in every centre and it is high time for those to get the Aadhaar Cards who haven’t obtained it yet. The whole process will be completed in April and after that no ration card will be issued to those who wouldn’t have Aadhaar Card,” he said and added that individual desirous of availing ration subsidies are hereby required to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar or undergo Aadhaar authentication. “For those not yet having Aadhaar, we will give time till April 30, 2017 to make application for enrolment for the unique identification number.
    He also said that Jammu and Kashmir government will go cashless in providing ration through public distribution system (PDS) by the end of current year with installation of point of sale (PoS) machines. Zulifqar said that PoS machines would initially be installed in urban districts before June and efforts would be made to make process of making PDS cashless in all 22 districts of the state by the end of December 2017.
