Party workers, led by former legislator and District President Srinagar Khursheed Alam, assembled outside the party office, which was sealed by the police disallowing anyone to enter inside the premises.
Raising slogans against the new land laws the protesters said that the union government was not only implementing anti-people laws and policies but also putting a curb on the genuine and democratic voices.
Several leaders of the party including Khursheed Alam, AH Kosheen, Muhammad Yasin Shah, Waheed ur Rehman Parra, Suhail Bukhari, Arif Liagroo, Rouf Bhat, Mohit Bhan, Tahir Sayeed, Dr Harbaksh Singh, Shahnawaz Mir, Omar Dar, Mohsin Qayoom, Mustakeem Khan, Bilal Ahmed were detained by the police and whisked away to some unknown destination.
Condemning the police action, a party spokesman said that it only indicates that the curbs imposed by the Jammu and Kashmir administration post August 5, 2019, were still in force and there was no space for democratic voices. “Peoples Democratic Party cadre is firm and will continue to struggle in order to represent the general aspirations of masses”, he said.
